Alan Llewellyn

What is your Job Title and how long have you been at BWOC?

Fuel Card Manager. 15 Years

Could you tell us how it all started - what originally brought you to working at BWOC?

BWOC were a customer of mine whilst working for a local stationery supplies company so I was aware of the company before seeing a job advertised in the local paper. It looked like a role I believed I would be good at and there are not many national companies with a head office in Weston super Mare.

Have you always worked in your current position?

I started as a fuel card account manager in a team of three. Some changes within the business meant I was able to take on the account management on my own and work closer with the managing director and have more input into changing processes.

What do you like about your job?

I enjoy problem solving and seeing a positive result at the end, this can be either helping a customer or advising a colleague. Every day can bring a new challenges which keeps us on our toes.

Do you have some standout BWOC memories/experiences you wouldn’t mind sharing?

Over the years we have had many graduates from Hamburg come over for work placements, I have been fortunate to have worked with many of these and spent time with them socially and learned so much. I was invited over to spend the weekend in Hamburg and two of the graduates gave up their weekend to show me around and we got to go to a Bundesliga football match which was a great experience.

Why do you think someone should apply for a job at BWOC?

To join such a large organisation with a family feel to it is rare. There is a balance between a drive for success and creating a fun and supportive environment, I think BWOC has that.

What is your Job Title and how long have you been at BWOC?

PA & HR Assistant, 34 years

Could you tell us how it all started - what originally brought you to working at BWOC?

I was offered a full-time position with the company after completing work experience through the Weston College.

Have you always worked in your current position?

I was originally started in a Receptionist position with the company. At the time, BWOC had a diverse sector of group businesses and so the administration work was varied, giving me a great insight to different sectors. I progressed to become P.A., to the Managing Director which is a position I hold now.

What do you like about your job?

BWOC gave me the opportunity to further my skills completing various courses some with Weston College and through other organisations. I have enjoyed the aspect of learning something new. I have recently become a Mental Health First Aider as part of our UK group and am able to apply my writing skills on the many Mental Health issues that we face in our daily lives, reporting monthly to help keep connected and give support to all our employees as a member of our new MHFA team.

Do you have some standout BWOC memories/experiences you wouldn’t mind sharing?

Over the years, through BWOC, I have been lucky to have experienced many great opportunities; attending Silverstone, cricket matches, football games, and Charity events. But my most memorable one of all was flying from Bristol Airport to an Airfield we used to deliver fuel to, in a Miles Messenger, a British four seat liaison aircraft. It was an incredible experience; sitting in the cockpit listening to air control as we flew above the tree tops. At the airport, I was able to have a close look at the Black Hunter and in a hangar, they had an array of dusty majestic Red Arrows to view. It just so happened the Noble Car was being filmed that day and I was taken for a quick spin along an unused runway. What an amazing experience!

Why do you think someone should apply for a job at BWOC?

BWOC has a strong family community spirit that is so evident, which I think is pretty unique.

Telesales Manager, 7 years (joined Sep 2014)

I had 4 years of experience of working in a sales position in the fuel industry so it was an immediate good fit.

I originally joined BWOC in the role of a Fuel Savings Advisor. After four years I progressed to a Team Leader, before becoming a Telesales Manager in March 2020..

What do you like about your job?

I am excited about what still is a new role within the company for me. I enjoy the challenge of building and looking after the Telesales Team. I also like speaking to different types of people and helping them figure out which one of our products would best fit their needs. I get satisfaction from converting prospects into customers and working with the team to reach our targets.
